Make Your Website Copy Count

Too many websites are full of copy that doesn’t make it clear what is being offered. Waffle and industry jargon leave the reader confused and uninterested. Losing a visitor means losing a potential customer and that costs money.

Great copy is an investment. Great copy turns visitors into customers and clicks into cash. If you invest in getting your copy right, you can turn your website into your greatest sales asset.

Your Website Copy Matters

Imagine the perfect sales pitch.

You walk into the meeting, you connect straight away and you say exactly what you want to say in the exact words you want to use. No stumbling over answers, no awkward pauses while you think of the right word, no losing your train of thought or going off on a tangent.

You talk about the most relevant benefits to the audience, you alleviate any concerns they have, and you give them the confidence to invest in you.

Then you close the deal.

Wouldn’t it be great if every pitch went just like that?

Well that’s what it’s like when you get your website copy right.

You can say exactly what you want to say, in the exact way you want to say it. You can show your readers that you understand their needs, that you can solve their problems and that they can trust you to deliver.

Tell the reader they are in the right place; you offer what they need. Convince them that you have something worth investing in. Explain the benefits that your products or services provide. Persuade readers that they should buy from you and not your competitors.

And if you can’t do that yourself, let us do it for you…

The Process

The Brief

There’s a few things we need to know before  we create your copy, so the first thing we need to do is have a quick call so we can learn about your business.

Once we have the details, we’ll put together a proposal which will outline how we are going to approach your copy and how much it will cost.

First Drafts

Once you’ve confirmed that you are happy with our proposal, we’ll get to work on writing your first drafts.

When we write, we write with your audience in mind. Who are they, what do they want to know and what is the best way to present the information?

Amendments

Once you’ve reviewed the copy, you let us know if you want anything adding, removing or changing and we’ll make the amendments as quickly as we can.

And if you really aren’t happy with the copy, then we’ll rewrite it for you – one set of amendments or rewrites is included in the price.

Marketing Your Site

It’s no good us writing amazing copy for you if you aren’t getting people to your site to read it.

We can help you get visitors by creating brilliant blogs that are optimised for search engines and readers. And we can create supporting content such as social media posts, email content and helpful downloads.

"Lisa took the time to understand my business and what I needed the website to achieve. She came up with some fantastic ideas and content. The site is so much more than I could ever have done myself and I know it will massively take my business forward. Lisa is a joy to work with, exceptionally professional and very talented."

The secret to great copy

The secret to writing great copy is understanding who you are writing for. Who do you want to do business with and why would they want to do business with you? What do you offer that they need? What problems do they have that you can solve? And what language is going to appeal to them? For us to write copy that gets you the right results, we need to understand your ideal customer.

But we also need to understand your business too – your objectives, your services, your values.  That’s why we like to have a call with you before we quote for your copy. Because if we don’t know who we are writing for, who we are writing about, or what the purpose of the copy is, how can we deliver what you need?

What we need to know

So you can prepare for our call, here are a couple of the questions we’ll be asking:

  • Do you have a site map/list of pages that require copy?
  • Have you decided on a template/design/layout for your new site?
  • Who are your ideal customers?
  • What services do you offer?
  • What are your key messages/values/selling points?
  • How are you going to be marketing your website/getting visitors to your site?

If you have no idea about what you want on your website, you might find it beneficial to book a copy consultation first so we can help you build a website brief.

FAQs

Every website is different – some websites have just a single page, while others have hundreds of pages. Some pages require very little copy, while other require lots of content. For that reason, it’s very difficult to offer a set price. That’s why we price each website on a project by project basis.

It starts with a quick call to find out what your objectives are for your site and how much content is required, then we give a fixed price.

We always work on a fixed price for the entire project rather than per hour or day or per word or page, so you know exactly how much your website copy is going to cost from the outset. No nasty surprises.

That’s a great question. After all, we’re all taught to write at school. And you know your business better than anyone. So why pay someone to write copy for you?

1. A copywriter will save you time: writing, editing and proofreading your copy to a high standard isn’t a quick job and shouldn’t be rushed. Good copy will win you more customers, while bad copy can put customers off, so it pays to get it right. If you don’t have days to dedicate to writing your copy, leave it to the professionals instead.

2. A copywriter has the right skills: writing copy isn’t just about being good at spelling and grammar. It’s about being able to convince people to take action – make an enquiry, book a call, buy a product. While you may be confident about where to use apostrophes, you might not necessarily know how to craft a convincing call to action. A good copywriter understands how to write copy that gets results.

If you’d like to know more about why you should invest in a copywriter, check out our article, why work with a copywriter.

Your website copy isn’t written for you; it’s written for your potential customers, so we write every word with them in mind.

But that doesn’t mean that you aren’t important. Your copy should be a reflection of your business, so we want you to love it too.

During our initial call with you, we try and get a good understanding of your business so we can write in a tone and style that is right for you and your audience.

Occasionally, we don’t get it quite right straight away. That’s why our prices include one set of amendments, so we can add, remove or change sections of the copy to make it right.

And if you really aren’t happy with it, then we’ll rewrite it for you.

We know it can be difficult letting people know you aren’t happy with a service, but we’d rather you tell us and give us a chance to make it right, than walk away with something you don’t want. So be honest – we don’t take offence. Different people like different things and our first drafts might not be to your taste.

Search Engine Optimisation involves so much more than just sticking a few keywords in your copy, so unless you are investing in a long-term SEO strategy, we suggest focusing on writing for your ideal customers.

That said, we always write all websites with both readers and search engines in mind. So if you do know what keywords you want to rank for, let us know and we’ll make sure we include them naturally in your copy.

If you do plan on investing in SEO or will be running paid ads, we can create dedicated, keyword focused landing pages to help with this.

But don’t worry if you haven’t decided what marketing you’re planning yet. We can discuss all these things on your call and put the right actions in place ready for the future.
